OK. I'm a Little Nosey
I began my pursuit of higher education by failing grade nine. Somebody had to do it. There weren't that many volunteers.
To play football, we weren't allowed to fail grades. I found that easier to do during my second pass through grade nine since I took the same classes. They were vaguely familiar to me.
One day in the school library, while I was locked away pursuing a paper due the next day, he wandered by and said, "Have you noticed that when you finish three hours of studying, you have the same sense of satisfaction as you do after a good practice?"
My casual nature was interested in getting the same dopamine (reward) from studying as I could from vigorously working out.
After high school, I worked as the Young Adult Director for a YMCA.
Then, I worked in a group home, which led me to run several rock concerts to raise enough money to buy a farm, pay for staff and open my own group home for boys from training school. I did this for several years, and as I became more interested in what was going on in people's minds, I decided to try and become a psychiatrist.
I received my B.A. in Psychology from McMaster University and then went to medical school there.
During an Intern Year in Family Medicine, I got to work in the ER, the OR, deliver babies and provide family medical care.
I studied psychiatry (guess where) at McMaster and graduated with a Fellowship in the Division of Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a Psychiatrist. I practiced from 1992 until 2016. I've always used 'Integrative Therapy,' where the best aspects of theories and techniques are introduced to individuals at the right times.
After a heart attack, I transitioned careers out of the practice of medicine and was recognized as a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association where I began a new career as an Online Counsellor.
Working counselling is an expression of joy. I know happiness may not be a thing you're experiencing right now, but that doesn't mean it's been permanently buried.
If it seems reasonable to you, I'd be happy to help.
